Job Title: Data Manager and Analyst for Wildlife and Habitat Conservation

About the Role
This is a full-time, in-office position at our young but fast-paced and action-oriented organisation. Unlike casual NGO settings, this role demands a high level of discipline, analytical rigour, and urgency. It's ideal for someone who enjoys working with diverse datasets and is committed to using research and analysis to drive real-time wildlife and habitat conservation planning, execution, and strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and organize data from trail cameras, drone surveys, field logs, and wildlife observations. (Organize, clean, structure, prepare, retrieve, etc)
Structure and manage Excel-based systems for:
Wildlife sightings and field documentation
Attendance and team reporting
Inventory, tasks, and project tracking for the organisation
Handle storage, backups, and access across cloud, NAS, and local drives.
Process and annotate image/video data for machine learning (e.g., Roboflow datasets).
Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to support wildlife & grassland habitat research, conservation action and restoration planning.
Keep track of all organisation activities across multiple projects and draft accurate periodic reports (monthly to annual) which are submitted to donors, partners, government departments, etc.
Support the design of baseline survey data forms and digitization processes.
Lead, and where needed assist with the publication of research papers.
Support web-based app maintenance for internal data tools and citizen science tools.
Contribute to donor reporting where data analysis or visual content is required.
Maintain inventory and coordinate data from office and field teams.
Assist with basic accounting, admin data entry, and project documentation.
Create visualizations (maps, charts, summaries) from opportunistic trail camera data, grid-based trail camera data, line transects, drone surveys, etc.
Interpret data to generate insights for internal strategy and potential policy recommendations.

Requirements
Required Qualifications, Skills & Tools
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Wildlife Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related ecology fields.
Proficiency in using tools such as Excel/Sheets, Python, R Studio, QGIS, ArcGIS, Roboflow, ML basics, Camtrap or similar, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Access 365, Microsoft Excel 365, Maxent, Fragstats 4.2, Raven Lite 2.0, SMART 7, Distance Sampling, Google Earth Pro, GIS Essentials, Epicollect Survey 5.0, Qualtrics XM Survey, Asana, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Meetings, Zotero, etc.
Clear understanding of data workflows and file management.
Ability to independently analyze ecological/conservation datasets.
Comfortable handling footage from trail cameras, drones and a variety of cameras.
Strong writing in English, visualization, and reporting skills.
Familiarity with or interest in wildlife, ecology, habitat restoration and conservation.
Experience managing multiple projects independently and collaboratively with teams, including junior staff, interns, senior managers, and founders.
Good to have
Work experience: At least 3 years
Experience with planning and publishing research papers
Experience with web apps, cloud backups, and system/storage syncing
Photo-video documentation, content design for creating print collaterals like booklets, etc, photo-video editing and data annotation experience.
Familiarity with DSLR/mirrorless cameras and telephoto lenses.
Knowledge of inventory systems and tech troubleshooting including, routers, servers, CCTVs, etc.
Prior experience in fundraising, including drafting grant proposals or pitch decks, will be an added advantage.
Experience in driving manual transmission SUVs and driving license of 4-wheeler cars.
